Miss FTV Africa: A new Black Diamond shines

This beautiful show created by Gerry Rantseli and her fresh team showed the models dressed in a variety of local designs with an international flair. The show began fashionably late, with the celebrity faces streaming amongst them I spotted Shabeer Limbada, owner of Durban’s hotspot Vacca Matta and Graeme something with his lovely on his shoulder.

The lights went down and music turned up. Appearing out of a cloud of light and shadows the models seemed to be almost floating on the catwalk, ensconced by mystical and vibey music & rays of light. Plenty of simple yet classy flowing translucent fabrics flurried the runway, laced garments, full wide-hips skirts and balloon-sleeved dresses also made a major entrance Galliano style. This show was truly an exotic display of beauty.

Earth Addict’s line are always young, fresh and pleasing to the eye. Igniting this spark in you is expected when you watch the models all adorned in smiles dressed in simple white, skirts & ‘peasant’ blouses; definitely makes you want to embrace the tribal trend head on. It was almost inspirations of 90’s Paris.

One of the items that lacked was jewellery which obviously was not part of the objective for these flawless models to show off. .

And from the faraway past & unforgettable era’s straight into the future were some of David Tlale’s work which I wasn’t too impressed with. But he still did make a statement with some of the dresses.

Some thought the grotesque ‘recycle clown’ look he created for some of the models accompanied by the junk yard set with dark-romance designs were discomforting, some were excited to see another creative couture level display.

Noted were the intensely was the gold piece which I personally found confusing that was worn by Annie Moodley, big shouldered silhouettes, messy wrap-over dress , some were ruffled while others had that shredded, warped look. Several dresses even gave of the impression as if they were made out of messy bits put together. David’s artistic mind gave way to prints along with some crazy creations . Overall it was an astonishing, classy and imaginative art work.

Extra chic silhouettes, soft fabrics, fine tailoring, graceful dresses and interesting models. The shows color palette displayed black, champagne, buff, cream & grey with touches of gold bright reds and earthy flavours of Africa.

Tlale has risen well in the ranks of fashion.

So, in closing, the show overall was good but left a lot to be desired in terms of presentation. The overall winner Priyeshka, a sixteen year old fashionista was well deserved.

A selection of models that showed potential were Pareshnie Moodley, the new “Black Diamond” to fashion, Hawa and Lebo. These girls have a very promising career in modelling and I will be keeping my eye on their movements to see their blazing run on the catwalks and billboards.
