24 April, Saturday evening, I attended a full-house comedy event, Curry on Laughing, at Emperors Palace. The show turned out to be a hit function.
COMEDY LOVERS: I cornered the Sarang family of four who had trekked out from Lenasia to savour a taste of the hilarious comedians. Also taking a break out from spending time with their husbands were Yogi Raspal and Karen Dhanraj. The two sister-in-laws were looking forward to the show as well. Shahrukh Khan’s number one Bollywood fan, Pavska Badasie, also pitched up with hubby Neelesh Badasie. The glowing Pavska, who is seven months pregnant with a baby boy, was upbeat about the evening’s event and I hoped the laughter wouldn’t induce labour!
FUNNY BONES: The performers Jailoshini Naidoo, Eubulus Tracy and Sans Moonsamy put together a script that had the audience gasping for breath as they laughed themselves senseless from start to end. With a parental guidance of 16, it was clear why this was necessary. The content was of the routine varied to a somewhat sexual content that poked fun at SA’s Indians, and let’s not forget our ‘guzzies’ in ‘Lower Umhlanga’ and Chatsworth and us Gauteng residents which had me in stitches.
OVERALL: I had to admit that the comedy is the sort that could make you proud to be Indian — no matter how much Gladwrap your mother used to keep the television remotes in mint condition or whether you loved or hated the generous amounts of camphor oil you had rubbed on to you. If you were an Indian and were at this show you would have been taken back to those moments that made you either cringe or smile! — NK
The wackiest comedy event this year! Everyone likes a good curry and a good laugh, this time the spice is in the comedy. Sans Moonsamy of Those Indian Guys!, Eastern Mosaics’ Jailoshini Naidoo and Comedy Festival man Eubulus Tracy perform fantastic stand-up routines intertwined with hilarious sketch comedy with some over the top caricatures to ensure that you Curry on Laughing!
If like me, you have been looking for the perfect Durban style bunny chow in JHB – well here it is. 2 Large Kebaabs (meat balls – Sans) 2 smaller kebaabs (smaller meat balls – Eubulus) and soft cooking potatoes (pronounced petty toes – Jailoshini) mixed with lots of gravy (pronounced krazee.
Comedy never tasted this funny!
We will satisfy your comedic appetite. Only a few tickets left. The show is going to be wack! Catch Jailoshini, Sans and Eubulus in top form this April @ Emperors Palace! You’ll smaak dis show! Pull in for a taste.
