Bollywood director Mani Ratman and producer Sharda have done it again with the magical Raavan, a modern-day take on the mythological Ramayana story. The main role of Raavan is played by who else but Abhishek Bachchan, while the character’s sister is humiliated by Rama (played by South Star Vikram).
Naturally, Abhishek is not going to put up with such rotten behaviour towards his beautiful sister and he storms into Rama’s house.
Problem is, Raavan doesn’t find his sister’s abuser at home.
So he decides on kidnapping Vikram’s wife, Sita, played by Aishwarya Rai.
Enter the police, who start the hunt for Ravaan, who takes refuge with Sita in the jungle. Naturally, for this is a story of drama and romance, Raavan and Sita fall head over heels in love with each other.
Well, this Raavan-Sita love affair precipitates the rest of this super tale and causes the twist that movie-goers will enjoy when they see the movie, due for release in South Africa on 18 June. Will Raavan win over Sita? Will Sita go back to Rama?
Mani’s wife Suhasini makes her Bollywood debut in this movie, for which the stunning musical score was created by AR Rahman (and lyrics from Gulzar). Govinda also stars in Raavan, playing the Hanuman character from Ramayana. It is Hanuman who helps Vikram find Abhishek. Ravi Kishan plays Abhishek’s trusted aide while Nikhil Dwivedi plays one of the police.
Also featuring are Ajay Gehi as Vibhishana, Bipasha Basu as Mandodari, Priyamani as Shoorpankha, and Tejaswini Kolhapure.
