Sheena Unwin, a DUT student snapped up the glittering award at the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award. This event held annually saw some of the most talented designers showcase their masterpieces.
Patrons of the event sauntered around indulging in the opulence that surrounds the Vodacom Durban July, relaxing in the restaurants and the select few who were in corporate suites in the Greyville marquee village.
5fm Miller Rocks, the Races marquee, where about 3000 people partied the day and night away. Miller brand manager Megan Macnab said the Vodacom Durban July was one of the best social events in the country and a great day to party and that’s where their concept of the marquee came from.
“ We felt that it was the social event with an ideal opportunity to party and have a day and night out at the races, where you could interact and have lots of fun and that’s where the whole Miller city idea from ,”said Macnab.
President Jacob Zuma also present at the venue, was among the dignitaries in attendance and handed over the sash to winner Bold Silvano from the Mike De Kock stable and it was yet another feather in the cap of winning jockey Anthony Delpech after capturing this years title.
Among the celebrities that graced the event, were singer Danny K and his girlfriend Lisa Gundelfinger, who were amongst the guests mingling at the Vodacom VIP paddock. The singer was complimentary about the event taking things easy and relaxing during the day at the racers. “ I always love coming to Durban and the July is a great day. I am just taking things easy and going with the flow”, he said.
Also in attendance was television presenter Zuraida Jardine and her husband Josh Lindberg. The former 5fm DJ was dressed by Malcom Kluk in a summery dress from his latest collection which was showcased at the SA Fashion Week last month. The couple said they were having a fabulous time at the race and enjoying the Durban weather. “This event is just incredible and special, the city is so welcoming and the big city feels like a small town,” said Lindberg.
Soapie star Clint Brink was also there having a fun time. A fan of horse racing, Brink said he grew up surrounded by horses as his dad was a race owner. “I am loving it ,I have always loved horses and racing so it feels like home at the racers,” said the Scandal actor.
