The showcase auditions for next week’s highly anticipated Vaisakhi Mela (Punjabi/Sikh) New Year event taking place 3rd April, at the George Lea Sandton Sports Club was exceptionally electric!

The Vaisakhi Mela 2011 is an extraordinary event designed to offer emerging artist career advancement opportunities to artists and to raise funds for charitable organizations around Gauteng.

Festival Director Naufal Khan, Ganesha Communications goes on to say that “a diverse selection of pure art forms that encompass our South African culture with a burst of Punjabi will amaze patrons all day long. The Vaisakhi Mela 2011 will be showcasing a very unique and selective entertainment component that will set a new benchmark for quality, authentic Indian entertainment of the Punjabi community.”

Showcase Auditions: Ushi Goshalia, Creative and Cultural Director for the Vaisakhi Mela was highly impressed with the talent that registered for auditions. Organizing festival committee members, Mr Kuldip Singh, Mr Navin Nair and Mr Thavanasen Govender were highly commendable on the quality of local talent that emerged.

The likes of many dance academies in Johannesburg, Polokwane impressed the judges who found it to be a competitive selection process. At the end 80% of the artists been confirmed


The event line-up includes very popular dance academies, pure Kathak by popular artist Shika Mohanlall, a powerfully enthralling duo with the spirit of Dabangg (a must see!). the much awaited performance by the United Punjab of South Africa

Bhangra Entertainment

Sintilllate Productions and their generous sponsorship of the Bhangra entertainment will keep the patrons tapping to Punjabi beats. DJ Shamir and International DJ Zuby of Mumbai .

Visiting Bollywood Artists

International Bhangra troupe of Bollywood’s Akshay Kumar – ‘Singh is King’ will be the headline performance for the afternoon complemented with an amazing Punjabi Marital Arts form known as ‘Gatka’.
