SHIVKUMAR SHARMA & RAHUL SHARMA live in South Africa. The concert is a double bill featuring the legendary santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma rendering traditional compositions on the santoor, accompanied by Subhankar Banerjee on tabla.

The other part features Rahul Sharma presenting contemporary compositions on santoor, with Subhankar Banerjee (tabla), Aatur Soni (drums), Prasad Sashte (keyboards) and Manas Chowdary (bass). Rahul will be presenting items from his much acclaimed albums such as Confluence (with Richard Clayderman), Time Traveller, Celebration, and his latest chart topping album Namaste India (with Kenny G). Rahul will be joined on stage by leading South African jazz musician Buddy Wells on saxophone. Buddy Wells is no stranger to Rahul’s music as they collaborated for the inaugural edition of the IPL in Mumbai in 2008.

Johannesburg – Sunday 25 September 2011, The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City; 4pm

On the previous SA tour of  Shivkumar Sharma & Rahul Sharma, tickets were sold out several weeks before the concerts – please book early to avoid disappointment this time round.


Celebration of Santoor is produced and presented by Inner Circle Entertainment, the premier producer of Indian Classical Music concerts in South Africa. Inner Circle Entertainment’s productions have been reviewed and highly acclaimed by leading UK-based world music magazine, SONGLINES.

Its previous productions include Ragas of Romance (with Rakesh Chaurasia, Tarun Bhattacharya, and Abhijit Banerjee), Raga on 200 Strings (featuring the santoor legend Pt Shivkumar Sharma,  Pt Bhawani Shankar, Pt Anindo Chatterjee, and Rahul Sharma), Jagjit Singh Live in South Africa, Raga Afrika (the world’s first musical collaboration between South Africa and India),  Two Shades of Raga (with sitar genius Ustad Shahid Parvez and flautist Rupak Kulkarni), and Three Shades of Raga with Pandit Jasraj, violinist Kala Ramnath, and sarodist Ken Zuckerman.
