Aarakshan, to shake India

Deepika, Prateik and Saif Ali Khan
Press launch with cast of Aarakshan

Aarakshan is the story of Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan), the legendary idealistic principal of a college that he has single-handedly turned into the state’s best. It is the story of his loyal disciple, Deepak Kumar (Saif Ali Khan) who will do anything for his mentor, of Deepak’s love for Prabhakar’s daughter, Poorbi (Deepika Padukone) and his friendship with Sushant (Prateik). It is the story of their love, their dynamic friendship, their zest for life and of their dreams for the future.

Centered on one of the most controversial issues of recent years, with the Supreme Court’s order on reservations, the story suddenly becomes a rollercoaster ride of high drama, conflict and rebellion, which tests their love and friendship for one another, and their loyalty to Prabhakar Anand.

Prakash Jha, the critically acclaimed director, is known to polish the skills of actors with his realistic and challenging characters. Such was also the case on his next power packed social drama AARAKSHAN, which is due for release on the 12th of August.  The young Prateik who is also a part of the film would find himself  nervous and hard to keep his focus when sharing screen space with the cast of Aarakshan which includes senior and reputed actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, and Manoj Bajpayee, Saif Ali khan and Deepika Padukone.

Aarakshan is Prateik’s first real issue based film, in which he plays a headstrong realistic character, and his first drama and working with a director like Prakash Jha only added to his nervous confusion. Prakash Jha, knew just the mantra to help make the young actor feel confident and sustain his focus during the shoot.

The team and the cast of Aarakshan starts to wonder what is this funny gesture of finger to nose, that Prateik keeps doing on the set, while waiting or prepping for his shots to be set up. During a scene, noticing this gesture of Prateik, curiosity got hold of Amitabh Bachchan and when he inquired it got revealed that the “mantra” for his confusion was as simple as, “Touch your finger to your nose, whenever you are confused,”  said Prakash Jha to help him keep his focus and confidence.

“Prateik is quite a talent he surely has the seeds of acting in him, after all he is Smita Patil’s son,” says Prakash Jha who took it upon himself to groom Prateik for the role and really take him under his wing. Following the lead of their director the rest of the Aarakshan family including Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone started constantly reminded Prateik of his new exercise and made sure he practiced his mantra.
