Shared History, Indian ExperienceThe inaugural proceedings at the 5th Shared History Festival, The Indian Experience kicked off to a resounding success as the Gauteng art, performance and theatre lovers converged to the Johannesburg Civic Theatre for the Indian Experience produced by Teamwork Productions.

The venue filled up by 18H00 with the Arts and Culture fraternity and international artists Nathoo Solanki, Chugge Khan, other Rajasthani musicians & the enchanting Lorena  who were the key features for the evening’s performance of Rajasthan Josh, a mesmerizing performance combining the folk traditions of north western region of India.

Using instruments like the Morchang, Bhapang Khartaal, Double flute, Nagada & Bamboo Flute and incorporating vocal styles ranging from the mystic Sufi traditions, bhajans & popular folk songs of Rajasthan, the performance will be interspersed with captivating dances like the Chari Dance, Kalbelia Snake charmers dance, & Terah Taali.

More about Nathoo Lal Solanki

Nathoo Lal has been playing the Nagada for several years now performing all over India, and has also showcased his talent at numerous festivals all over the world. He has performed with artists such as Prem Joshua, Indian Ocean, Susheela Raman, amongst others. He now teaches the Nagada to people of all ages from all around the world at his own school in Pushkar, Rajasthan.

Background on Chugge Khan

Chugge Khan is a very talented versatile folk singer and musician. Widely traveled all over the world he has played with an extensive range of artists and bands. He plays the mouth harp and wooden hand claps. His energetic movements and his endearing personality add joy to melody.
