Gautham Goes Gold
Director turned Producer, Gautham Menon, is backing Ram, who directed ‘KaaTRaadhu ThamiZH’, for the movie ‘Thanga MeengaL’ (Goldern Fish) where, apart from directing, Ram will be starring in as well. The film glances a critical eye on the education system of India. “But don’t let that fool you”, stresses Ram adding that the film contains enough commercial elements to be a mass entertainer. Pairing-up with Ram in the lead is ‘Satham Pohdhaaheh’ heroine, Padmapriya.
In the mean time, Gautham is both producing and directing ‘Needhaaneh Yen Ponvasandham’ (You alone are my Goldern Spring), starring Jiiva and Samantha; Samantha is simultaneously filming Mani Ratnam’s ‘KaDal’ (Sea). For a change, instead of going for his usual Rahman or Jayraj, Gautham has turned to Veteran Maestro, Illaiyaraja, to score the soundtrack — even though Illaiyaraja has penned the melodies, he will be co-composing with musicians from Budapest
The Just For Women (JFW) Achievers Awards 2012 were held recently. The event attracted stars in their numbers in support of the ladies of the industry. Featuring prominently were Ravi, Prasanna, Kushboo, Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal. Actress/Singer Andrea, together with Suchitra Karthik were part of the vocal entertainment whilst Sneha, Anjali, Sana Khan and Neetu Chandra burnt-up the stage with spectacular choreography.
Among the numerous recipients were Amala Paul and daughter of Rajini and wife of ‘Kolaveri’ Dhanush, Aishwarya. Amala’s convincing entry into the industry earned her the ‘Rising Sensation’ award; Aishwarya, who is both a graphic-designer and producer, bagged the ‘Newsmaker of the Year’ award. Receiving a Special Award for her tremendous achievements and contribution to the worlds of cinema and music was the legendary P. Shusheela.
Ajith turns 41
Come May 1, K-Town’s Godfather, Ajith, will have his birthday celebrated in style. Ajith’s fan-base is among the biggest in India and fans will be pulling-out all stops to celebrate their hero. This, despite news that Billa 2, which was gunning for a May 1 release, may not even be released in the month of May due to post-production delays. When it does, though, the stable will be looking for a success as good as ‘Mangaathaa’ experienced — if not, better.
To compensate for this, fans will have another chance to watch Billa on big screen with it being re-released to commemorate Ajith’s birthday.
There’s a vast differences between Billa 1 and Billa 2 with the only common factors being the unstoppable combo of Ajith and muso Yuvan. None of the popular names of Prabhu, Nayantara, Namitha or Rahman will be featured. Instead, Miss India World 2008 and Miss World 2008 runner-up, Parvathy Omanakuttan, will be making her Tamil debut as the lead female with story by US-pair, Chakri Toleti and Eric Felberg. Chakri has also stepped-in to replace Billa 1’s director, Vishnuvardhan.
STR is on to his next
Recovering from an average performance with ‘Vosthi’, the remake of ‘Dabangg’, STR is working for a better performance with his next, ‘VeTTai Mannan’. Teaming-up with him is Jai of ‘Goa’ and ‘Chennai 600028’ fame. Stepping into lead female for her second Tamil movie is Deeksha Seth. Also making an appearance will be ‘Hansika Motwane’ after a successful run with both ‘Yengehyum Kaadhal’ and ‘Vehlaayudham’, and Poonam Kaur, stepping-up into a more prominent role from ‘VeDi’. Yuvan will be re-united with STR after a break with ‘Vosti’, as the Music Director.
Also in progress for STR is ‘PohDaa PohDi’, which has been an on and off project for more than a year now.
3 for Durbs?
Whilst ‘Kolaveri Di’ progresses on its rampage from crossing 50 million views and continues to be a rage among youth across the globe, it failed to impress veteran lyricist, Javed Akthar, who commented that the song’s lyrics were insulting and the song as a whole was below average. The harsh criticism seems to have fallen on deaf ears, though, as the anthem’s movie ‘3’ (MooDRu), released to office smashing first day.
And yes! Great news for Durban as the Dhanush-Shruti starrer will be hitting the big screen. That makes two consecutive releases for Shruti in SA.
A statement that was not meant to cause any harm seems to have set the media off on a speculation frenzy but, could it possibly be true? Addressing the press, Arya said that he wasn’t comfortable with the lip-locking scene in his current, ‘VeTTai’, with Amala Paul adding that the actress, nevertheless, was more prepared for it and took much initiative in bringing the romance scenes together. Rumours are about that this has angered Amala which has led to her ending the friendship with Arya. This was also the reason, presumed, as to why Amala never turned-up to Arya’s house-warming party. Amala was quick to extinguish that rumour saying that she was away at Delhi however, there was no mention of any false behind her giving Arya the silent treatment.
The ‘MadrasapaTTinam’ hero doesn’t seem to be perturbed though as he is ready to take on the Tamil remake of ‘Delhi Belly’. No title has been furnished as yet, though, Hansika will most likely be taking on the role of possessive girlfriend.
