Teatro at MontecasinoThe Teatro’s fifth birthday is celebrated during the season of the phenomenally successful Broadway hit, Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ The Phantom of the Opera, which has played to more than 100 million people in 149 cities around the world. Since it first opened its doors with the world class production of Disney’s The Lion King 5 years ago, the Montecasino Teatro has become a significant contributor to the performing arts. “It’s been five truly exciting and inspiring years,” states Bryan Hill, General Manager of the Teatro.

The location of the Teatro is probably the biggest asset, the venue being safe, easily accessible location, with a variety of dining options and other entertainment options to choose from. With the three Montecasino hotels, out of towners can choose from the Palazzo, The Southern Sun Montecasino and the Sunsquare Montecasino – who offer attractive show and stay packages.

Monte Casino TeatroThe Montecasino Teatro has been averaging 80% occupancy throughout its first five years, being voted Best Theatre in the Leisure Options Readers Choice Awards for the past two years, and welcoming their two millionth visitor in January this year. The range of productions hosted by the Teatro since it opened includes Broadway musicals, balle, ice shows, international jazz, comedy shows, opera, gospel, rock, electronic pop, and more – each show attracting an extremely diverse mix of guests, many of whom had never visted a theatre before. In the five short years the Teatro has quickly become renowned for the stellar quality of shows it offers, hosting productions that cannot be seen anywhere else in Africa.

The Teatro opened with one of the worlds most spectacular production, Disney’s The Lion King. The production went to break all box office records in South Africa, with over 550,000 people watching the show over 36 weeks, making it the longest running show in South African history.
