satyamev-jayateBollywood actor Aamir Khan finally made his television debut with the highly talked about television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. While Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s game shows were high on entertainment value, Aamir chose to be different. His highly emotional chat show, aims at bringing a change in the society.  In their second outing after taking on female foeticide, Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate touched on the disturbing topic of child sexual abuse. It’s a topic which gets shoved under the rug not only in our country but all around the world. Child sexual abuse is rampant and according to statistics, 53% kids are sexually abused in India!

Satyamev Jayate revealed some shocking truth about the state of women in India.  Millions of people across India were glued to their television sets on Sunday to watch Aamir Khan’s much hyped show in recent times and rightly so! A raging craze on social networking sites and a trending topic amongst film celebrities and viewers alike, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ hit the right chords. As the show says, ‘jab dil pe lagti hain, toh baat banti hain’.

Although Aamir chose to make his TV debut with a serious theme based show, he’s managed to do what other celebrities haven’t done so far: talking about the ‘aam janta’. Aamir Khan is ‘THE’ man who manages to bring out the tears and emotions from audiences and participants, not afraid to shed a few of his own.

‘Satyamev Jayate’ is not just a talk show, it’s a battle against the evil practices prevailing in India, an appeal to the masses to unite together to fight against crime. “Satyamev Jayate”, with its first episode on female feticide, struck the emotional chords of many people worldwide.

Aamir-Khan-satyamev-jayateAamir talks about the killing of unborn girls or female feticide. An alarming reality, it involves the collusion of families, some unscrupulous doctors and a social structure that encourages the desire for a boy child – at any cost. The result has been the death of over 3 crore unborn girls since independence and a generation of young men, many amongst whom will find it very tough to get a life partner. Known for his genuine and well researched content- Aamir brought in doctors, social workers and journalists to further educate the masses on this theme. Before there was no way to determine the sex of the child. But with the introduction of Ultrasound, government officials and doctors in almost all states in India started encouraging families to curb the population explosion by opting for an ultrasound as a solution to determine the child’s sex and abort the female fetus. A practice still considered illegal in India.  Some journalists did a wonderful sting operation where they covered 13, 000 kms and caught 140 doctors on their hidden camera who supported this evil. The operation further showed that these doctors were lauded for their efforts and were even promoted instead of their licenses being cancelled.

aamir khanAamir appealed to the masses to unite and request the Government to set up a special court for speedy trials for female feticide cases that have been pending in different courts of the state over the years. Especially when the judges of our country support this practice by saying they see nothing wrong in female feticide. After all, every family needs a male to carry on the family traditions.  The show claimed that according to 2011 Census, the rate at which the unborn female child is killed amounts to killing off 10,00,000 girls a year and there were 914 girls for every 1,000 boys.  The female feticide is depriving India of future Parvatis,Sitas,Lakhshmis and Yashodhras and Maharani of Jhansi to think of a few famous female leaders and Whoever once (so famously) stated that “behind every successful man there’s a woman” and so we are also being deprived of some future successful men for India.

India is described as a land of goddesses far more than the gods; it is the goddesses who seem to attract the attention of the people. If we were to study the thousands of ancient and modern temples and other monuments that dot the extensive terrain of India we would notice that it is the goddesses more than the gods, who draw the interest of the common man. The Indians tended to believe that it is the female body and not that of the male is beautiful. Indian literature speaks more of woman rather than the male, who symbolized authority and power, which may be reasons for this popularity of the goddesses in India?

Among the many societies that can be found in the world some of the most venerating regard for women has been found in Vedic culture. The Vedic tradition has held a high regard for the qualities of women, and has the greatest respect within its tradition. By this rampant practice of female feticide we are destroying the very fabric of our future society.
