Multi-platinum musician Maher Zain is set to wow fans in his debut South African “one night only” concert. Be Loved Magazine in association with Awakening Records officially announced the concert this week, set to take place at the Growthpoint Kingspark Stadium on 14 December 2013.
The 32-year-old Muslim Swedish R&B singer, songwriter and music producer has won more than 40 platinum awards and is greatly recognised worldwide for his songs that inspire, entertain and send messages of peace, unity and hope. His music mixes the sounds of R&B with traditional spiritual, soul and contemporary pop music, and draws on both Eastern and Western influences.
Having previously worked with award-winning music icons such as Akon, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Brandy, New Kids on the Block, and Michael Jackson, Zain realised that he was seeking a deeper journey. That was when he converted to Islam and embraced spiritual music.
Concert promoters Saaima Moola Haffejee and Hafez Junaid Haffejee spokespersons for Be Loved magazine said the excitement was mounting as local fans prepared for a “long awaited” concert which they say would add colour and inspiration to the “Ubuntu” for the people of Durban.
“We have worked long and hard on this project and I am thrilled to see it all unfold and turn into a reality. I know that the city is going to come alive when Maher Zain lands in Durban. We have been waiting for this for a very long time and I am particularly thrilled that we as Be Loved magazine have made all this possible,” said Haffejee who has also launched the Sue-le’mani range of Khimar’s (headscarves) and Halaal nail polish.
They added that they were confident that the universal message in Zain’s music would reflect positivity and unity among South Africans.
Sharif Banna, CEO of Awakening Worldwide, said; “Awakening Live is excited to be coming to South Africa, and Maher is thrilled to be performing in front of his South African fans for the very first time. Growing the SA fan base is important to Awakening and spreading positive messages is key for us. We’re elated to be able to share Maher’s award winning talent with the world and we encourage everyone to make the most of this occasion.”
Tauhir Aboobaker Mahomed, Director at Radio Al Ansaar, the official radio sponsor of the event, expressed his excitement adding that they were honoured to be associated with the event.
“We are pleased to be part of this event and look forward to keeping our listeners updated as we countdown to show day.”
