Mandolin Prakash Trio live in SA

MANDOLIN PRAKASH TRIO is a an Indo-Jazz Flamenco Fusion ensemble based on a strong confluence of the traditional South Indian classical art form fused with Spanish motifs and other world percussions. The sound derived is based on the joyous feet-tapping rhythm motifs of Spanish/Flamenco guitars fused with the exciting polyrhythm of south India and the melodic intricacies of raga. The Indian meeting of Afro-Latin rhythm is channeled through virtuosic flights and improvisational forms.

Artist Profiles

Indian Fusion MusicPrakash is a classically trained Carnatic south Indian mandolin virtuoso. Along with veteran maestro U. Srinivas, he is one of the few classical musicians regularly performing and moving the instrument forward. After receiving his initial formative training with U.P Raju, he furthered his studies with vocal and veena master Innisai Maamani Smt. Padma Veeraraghavan, (a disciple of yester-year stalwarts Ariyakudi Sri. Ramanuja Iyengar and Palghat Sri K.V.Narayanaswamy). He began performing classically in 1999, won the National level Music Competition held by All India Radio in 2007 (Carnatic Instrumental category) and became an All India Radio ‘B’ grade artist in the same year. He is also the recipient of the Bharath Kalachar and CCRT Central Government Scholarships. MandolinPrakashTri-Write-UP-5Santhosh Chandran is a foremost exponent of the Flamenco style of Guitaring in South India. Trained both in Carnatic music by his father and in Western Classical music, Santhosh has taken to exploring various forms of music in his illustrious career. He is also an ex-member of the popular rock band from Kerala, ‘Motherjane’, and a sought another Session Guitarist & Composer in the Malayalam TV/Film industry.

He has constantly been collaborating with various artists the world over and is extremely thrilled to be part of this trio, exploring the nuances of two of his favourite forms of music.

 

 

MandolinPrakashTri-Write-UP-6K. Parthasaarathy ‘Partha’, is a talented young mridangist/multi-percussionist from Chennai and a disciple of Mridangam Maestro Guruvayoor Shri.Dorai with more than a decade’s worth of training, performing actively in the December Music season in Chennai since his formative days. He has taught himself world percussion, inspired by Trilok Gurtu, Zakir Hussain, Taufiq Qureshi and continues to expand his boundaries, collaborating with many of the world’s leading musicians and dancers. He has visited more than 20 countries for performances and has completed three ICCR tours as an ambassador of Indian music. His hybrid custom made percussion kit is totally unique and includes a wide variety of drums which are of African, Latin, Cuban and Spanish origin, allowing him to amalgamate Eastern & Western drumming styles with iconoclastic ‘soundscaping’.
