SA Tamil New Year Programme Schedule

Slideshow22The Executive Committee of the South African Tamil Federation, Trustees and Provincial Affiliates – the Tamil Federation of Gauteng, the Eastern Cape Tamil Federation, the Western Cape Tamil Federation and the Tamil Federation of Kwa-Zulu Natal takes great pleasure in extending our special invitation to you and your family to join us in ushering Tamil New Year – Jaya Varusham 5115 – a year of victory and accomplishment!

The South African Tamil Federation, its national affiliates, their unit organisations and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) presents one of India’s young, highly talented artists in a classic performance of Bharatya Natyam in various parts of the country!

Ms Purva Dhanashree has received training in Bharatya Natyam from her mother Smt. Kamalini Dutt, senior disciple of Guru Sikkil Ramaswamy Pillai, in the Tanjavoor style of Bharatya Natyam. She is also trained in the Kalakshetra style from Smt. Radhika Shurajit, premier student of the Dhananjayans, for over twelve years. Presently Purva is undergoing training in Vilasini Natyam from Padmabhushan Smt. Swapnasundari. Purva has had the privilege to work under the guidance of Dr.Mamata Niyogi Nakra on the pedagogy of child friendly dance.

Please find below details of the national celebrations to be held. We look forward to coming together as a united family across the country to commemorate an auspicious start to our Tamil New Year:

  • 9th April 2014 at 19h30 hosted by ICCR, SATF, TFG and the Pretoria Tamil League – Seva Samaj Auditorium, Olivine Street, Laudium and the entrance is free.
  • 10th April 2014 at 19h00 hosted by ICCR, SATF, TFKZN and the Tongaat Hindu Forum – Thirupathie Temple Hall, 126 Belvedere Drive, Tongaat, Durban and the entrance is free.
  • 11th April 2014 at 19h00 hosted by ICCR, SATF and the Western Cape Tamil Federation, which includes the renowned Veeramani Kannan – Joseph Stone Auditorium, Rylands Estate, Cape Town. Entrance to this event is R30.00 per ticket.
  • 12th April 2014 at 16h00 hosted by ICCR, SATF and the Eastern Cape Tamil Federation – SS Aalayam Hall, Malabar, Port Elizabeth and the entrance is free.
  • 12th April 2014 at 16h00 a Celebration Concert will hosted by the Tamil Federation of Gauteng and its affiliates – Patidar Hall, Salvia Street, Lenasia – Extension 3.
  • 13th April 2014 – the South African Tamil Federation and the Tamil Federation of Kwa-Zulu Natal will be joining and be celebrating the day with 3 affiliate organisations:-
  • 11h00 hosted by the Port Shepstone Tamil Association at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.
  • 14h30 hosted by the Croftdene Shree Emperumal at the SATF Cultural Centre in Merebank.
  • 16h30 hosted by the Clairwood Tamil Institute at the Clairwood Tamil Institute Hall.
