“The truth will set you free, but first it will anger you.” – Anonymous

mʌðəland/ noun

One’s native land.

n. The land of one’s ancestors.
n. A country considered as the origin of something.
n. The country of one’s birth.
n. Country of origin.
n. Mother country in contrast to its colonies.

Having its roots in the colonial era, the world “motherland” has many connotations. 68 years of Independence and continuing, it is time we ask ourselves, are we truly free? It is time we ask ourselves what we are leaving for our next generation- a decaying country, a dying motherland, or an advanced and prosperous nation that was the dream of our forefathers, that was the reason of their sacrifice, that justified their deaths and rebellion in the freedom struggle?

What is more colonized? A nation, a land or a mind?
