Rangmanch Pravesh

Kala Darshan – Institute of classical music and dance presents the Kathak Rangmanch Pravesh (inaugural Kathak performance) of Niveshan Munsamy on 16 November 2014 at the Pattundeen Theatre (Aryan Benevolent Homes – Unit 6, Chatsworth) commencing at 4pm.

Niveshan is the senior student of Guru Shri Manesh Maharaj and has been undergoing rigorous training in Kathak for the past twelve years. He is a talented upcoming classical dancer. His Rangmanch Pravesh marks the beginning of his professional career as a ‘Kathakar’ (a professional Kathak artist).

A Rangmanch Pravesh is a milestone in the life of a dancer. It demands complete control and command over the intricacies and nuances of Kathak. It is a culmination of many years of discipline, perseverance and devotion where the dancer presents his art before a live audience.

Kathak is one of the eight major classical dance forms of India. It has its origins in the remote temples of Northern India and is steeped in divinity. It later flourished in the courts of the Mughal emperors and evolved into a chamber art having the technique and expression in predominance. Kathak is distinguished by rapid pirouettes, complex footwork and evocative expressions. It is one of the most cherished and loved classical dance forms in the world today.

Kala Darshan invites all dance lovers to this spiritual experience as Niveshan continues this great legacy and cultural heritage into the new generation. His vision is to enrich the cultural soil of South Africa with his art and to pass on his knowledge to the younger generation.
