KZN: Priest dies during prayer service

Affectionately known as Uncle Bobby, he has been a pillar of strength to his devotees.

Kwa-Zulu Natal: Devotees at the Stonebridge Marieamman Temple in Phoenix were saddened at the loss of their presiding priest collapsed and died on an elevated structure while conducting a prayer, earlier Sunday morning.

Paramedics today were faced with a very unusual call in the phoenix area; a priest was conducting a service from an elevated platform at a temple in phoenix when he collapsed.  The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics and ambulance crews arrived at the temple and had to clamber up the structure for about eight meters to treat the patient.

Medics worked fervently to resuscitate the priest for an extensive period, tragically he died at the scene. S A P search and rescue was called in to perform a high angle rescue to bring the body down to ground level.

The public has been sharing condolence messages on social network throughout Sunday and this morning.

Funeral Details: Funeral of Uncle Bobby of Stonebridge Marieamman Temple will be held today at the residence from 10am to 11am thereafter to the Stonebridge Community Hall till 11am till 2pm
