Bollywood Review: Tevar

Background

Boney Kapoor is amongst the most prolific producers of Indian cinema. Over the years the older brother of Anil Kapoor and husband of Sridevi have delivered amazing hit movies like Judaai, Wanted and the blockbuster No Entry. Now he teams up with his actor turned producer younger brother Sanjay Kapoor for the remake of the Telegu hit Okkadu. The movie was initially meant to be a Launchpad for his son Arjun Kapoor who went on to make a sizzling impression in his debut Ishaqzaade

Story:  The movie traces the obsession of a dangerous and notorious gangster who falls in love with a reporter’s sister named Radhika (Sonakshi Sinha). When the reporter threatens to expose the criminal behaviour he is brutally murdered. Enter the picture the Kabbadi champion Pintu (Arjun Kapoor) – a strong and brave young man who in a twist of fate comes to Radhika’s rescue unaware of the danger lurking at every corner

Production and Direction

Tevar which means attitude is produced and directed with the right attitude. The drama unfolds quickly with a simple yet entertaining story that is captured with powerful and wonderfully styled action and dialogues.

Performances

Arjun Kapoor is fast becoming a favourite with another impressive performance after wonderfully crafted hits like 2 States, Finding Fanny and Gunday. The rising sensation delivers the right punches and handles the emotional scenes with perfect subtlety. Sonakshi Singh gets a role that allows her to act and she is always enjoyable when given the right opportunities. The solid supporting cast of Manoj Bajpai and Raj Babbar are brilliant though the later must be complimented for handling his role with a touch of class.

Music

Average music score with Radha Nachegi and Superman being the pick of the lot

What I liked

The rapid pace as the story unfolds and Arjun Kapoor’s strong character

Overall

Tevar is a good way to start the New Year. The movie is a treat for those that enjoy a good story with power packed action that makes for pure commercial entertainment. Rating :7/10
