Devi Sankaree Govender attacked in Bloemfontein

deviBloemfontein – Devi Sankaree Govender,  who was on location in Bloemfontein for a Carte Blanche shoot, was mugged on Wednesday morning. She tweeted about her ordeal that her chain was ripped off her neck, but she was otherwise unhurt.

She walked a few metres from the team and felt a man’s hand around her neck. She said she turned around and started to scream, but then kept quiet as he tightened his grip around her neck.  He quickly ripped off the necklace and walked off as if nothing had happened, she said.

A shocked Sankaree Govender said she was happy that nothing worse happened to her. It was the first time in 13 years of working for Carte Blanche that she had been a victim of crime, she added.  The chain and locket, which she had worn every day for the last 13 years, was a gift from her husband when their son was born.

Govender said it was worrying that criminals were now targeting journalists who are out on the field, telling stories of people who have come to the media for help.
