NEPAL EARTHQUAKE: The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Tuesday, May 12, 83km (52 miles) east of Kathmandu, and close to the base of Mount Everest.

The USGS initially said the quake had a magnitude of 7.1. The quake was later upgraded to a magnitude of 7.4 before being downgraded to a magnitude of 7.3. According to reports, the quake, which lasted just over one minute, was felt as far away as northern India.

More than 8,000 people died in a 7.8-magnitude quake in Nepal on April 25, which destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. This footage, shot by James Shaw of Canadian Red Cross, shows a landslide caused by the earthquake near Dhuche in the north of the country.
