Gabbar is Back

Akshay Kumar is perhaps one of the greatest sensations of Indian cinema. After a smash hit in the critically and commercially successful riveting thriller Baby, Kumar returns with producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Gabbar is Back. The successful duo have worked previously on Rowdy Rathore.

Story: Set in a time of political scheming and corruption, the movie traces the vigilante named Gabbar who is out eradicate the evils of society. From shocking revelations in the medical sector to devious public servants, Gabbar is hell bent on starting a mission of truth, honesty and justice, while seeking revenge for an old tragedy.

Direction: The first thing that strikes you about this movie is the cleverly crafted title that relies on additional mileage with reference to the icon villain Gabbar from Sholay. While Gabbar is Back is far from the Sholay league, the movie does manage to entertain with the right message.  However while the intentions are noble, the movie misses the high voltage drama that is needed for a subject of this nature.

Performances:
This is a Kumar show from start to end, and there is no faulting his performance. Kareena Kapoor Khan reduced to a cameo is all what the scripting dictated, while Shruti Hassen is totally wasted.

Music: Only one song to recommend – Teri Meri Kahani, while Aao Raja is purely noise and a wasted effort by the talented Chritrangha Singh to be noticed

Best Scene: The corruption that unravels at the hospital

Overall: With the movie being declared a quick hit at the box office, it proves that Kumar power with a good social message is enough ammunition to set the box alight.

Rating 6/10 by Shalandra Bunseelall

The movie is now showing at Ster-Kinekor Theatres across the country.
