12107900_1679722185602720_1476264876634506889_nThe book is an introduction to the distinctly different palate of taste that South Africans of Indian descent have created fusing the wealth of Africa’s ingredients with that of their heritage.

One of South Africa’s richest food cultures tells us the tale of a fast – paced story of a family with a passion for good food and good times.  As South Africa progresses furiously, the author captures the fading way of life of the idiosyncratic Indian diaspora.

The recipes that are found within this new book are brought to life through his family’s meticulously recorded history.  ‘South African Indian Cuisine‘ is a must have cook book that reads like a story filled with affection and a rich legacy of a time that brings nostalgia to those who yearn for the good old home cooked meal of their grandparents.

Naidoo goes on to say, “This book has been a lot of fun for me to write. For every recipe that was included, there were at many food tasting parties with friends, families, work and business colleagues.”

About Vic:
He hails from the suburb of Overport just outside Durban, South Africa.  His passion for cooking was sparked when he was in primary school and pushed on by his late dad (Roy Naidoo) and Uncle Morgan Naidoo who were well known Indian Cuisine Chefs at some of Durban’s 5 star Beach front Hotels.

As Naidoo grew up he had a huge passion to open a take away restaurant, this dream became reality  in 1980 when he did just that in Port Elizabeth at just 21 years old.

This led to a series of of other food venues around the country.   His flagship restaurant opened in Centurion, Gauteng in the Centurion Lifestyle Centre. This restaurant boasted an 80 seater sit-in, take out & delivery service, cocktail bar, a spice centre, savoury deli and also served as a cooking school for his weekend casual staff.

Customers always asked me to share my recipes with them, jokingly I used to tell them this is a family trade secret and cannot be shared.

As with every man, there has to be a partner behind him and this was his wife Kay who gave him the inspiration to write a cook book using the restaurant recipes.

In May 2015, South African Indian Cuisine, the cook book was officially launched which is designed for everyday cooking.

This cook book provides not only recipes, but helpful hints and advice on cooking techniques that make the most of everything you prepare. You will never be stuck when some ask you “WHAT’S COOKING CHINA!”.
