Audi is developing a system that will enable its cars to communicate with traffic signals.
The system will tell drivers when the light is about to turn green or red and will also let them know if they are going to miss the green light. On their blog about the product, the company said that “the car receives real-time signal information from the advanced traffic management system that monitors traffic lights”. The link between vehicle and infrastructure is routed via the on-board LTE data connection and Traffic Technology Services, Inc. servers.
Right now the car manufacturing company is only developing these cars for The United States but we wonder if it will ever come to other countries especially South Africa given its complicated road systems and manic traffic. Sources at Audi India said these cars won’t be available in India “any time soon” because government permissions pose as a road block.
The company said it is introducing the services to make driving less stressful, and not so much to increase safety. The new feature will be available in Audi Q7, A4 and in all road models built after June 1st, 2017.
