As a South African corporate, Tsogo Sun takes its responsibility towards assisting entrepreneurs and contributing to economic growth very seriously, and allocates one of three sectors within its Citizenship strategy to entrepreneur and supplier development, under the banner of Tsogo Sun Entrepreneurs.
Emphasis within this sector is on skills-based entrepreneurial development as well as on providing preferential procurement opportunities to qualifying and predominantly black-owned small businesses.
Tsogo Sun Entrepreneurs has evolved strategically over 10 years and is now a comprehensive programme that is adapted for different business types, providing an over-arching and practical range of offerings that are contributing to growth within emerging businesses.
Tsogo Sun Supplier Showcase
As part of the supplier development campaign within the Entrepreneurs programme Tsogo Sun has hosted three Supplier Showcases.
The first was held at Gold Reef City hotel in partnership with the City of Joburg – Department of Economic Development, which was aimed at providing market and development access to 120 small, medium and micro enterprises. The SMMEs were given the opportunity to showcase their products and services, to gain exposure to potential new markets, and to attend a workshop about procurement to help them target and secure new clients.
A second Supplier Showcase was hosted in March this year for 60 SMMEs by Tsogo Sun subsidiaries, including Montecasino, Silverstar Casino, Gold Reef City Casino and Gold Reef City Theme Park, as well as HCI and subsidiaries, including Seartec, e.tv, HCI Coal and BSG.
The third Supplier Showcase took place in Cape Town in July, in which Tsogo Sun, together with subsidiaries that included Mykonos Casino, Garden Route Casino, Caledon Casino, Southern Sun Hotels, and HCI Limited and its subsidiaries, hosted the group’s third Supplier Showcase for nearly 50 SMMEs at Southern Sun Newlands.
A fourth Supplier Showcase took place at Garden Court South Beach in August in partnership with Tsogo Sun, together with subsidiaries that included the group’s KZN hotels, Suncoast, Blackrock and Golden Horse Casinos, and HCI Limited and its subsidiaries, for 30 SMMEs at Garden Court South Beach.
A final showcase will be taking place in Johannesburg, giving qualifying suppliers an opportunity to participate in the Tsogo Sun Entrepreneurs Development Programme, which announces new intakes annually in October.
