Menswear in India has been on the upswing since the launch of VH + GQ Fashion Nights last year. Now it seems like it’s having a full-blown moment.
Lakmé Fashion Week that was previously loaded with women’s looks has become a strong platformfor menswear with over 10 designers showing everything from sherwanis to sports luxe and bright suits to bandhgalas.
Finale designer Sabyasachi brought out signature floral-printed sherwanis to the sublime music of the Symphony Orchestra of India, while Manish Malhotra presented the modern man’s wedding wardrobe in rich colours like green and oxblood. Shantanu & Nikhil paid homage to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre with draped silhouettes, military details and hand harnesses. Kunal Rawal had Ranbir Kapoor walk down in slick Indianwear with subtle sporty details. One of GQ’s 50 Most Influential Young Indians’ Ujjawal Dubey presented alternative fashion filled with asymmetry for his label Antar-Agni, while emerging designer Sahil Aneja kept it wearable with a sports luxe collection.
Whatever kind of guy you are, there was something for everyone.
