Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is finally ready to make his ‘Padmavati’ vision a reality. With set decorators working round the clock on the film sets, and the film’s leading cast – Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor – getting into character, fans can expect another magnum opus in the making.
According to reports, Deepika, who is currently out promoting her Hollywood film ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’, will commence shooting for the film from November 5.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Ranveer and Shahid are ‘growing’ into their characters by matching their beards to match that of the rulers Sultan Allauddin Khilji and Raja Rawal Ratan Singh respectively. The actors have allegedly been asked to reserve 200 days for the film’s shoot. As we all know, SLB’s 2015 blockbuster ‘Bajirao Mastani’ took over a year just for the shoot and post production work was reportedly in progress till days before its release. The director is also reportedly going overboard to keep his sets and other film details under wrap.
Ranveer Singh Thinks He Can Call The Shots
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s two directorials, ‘Ram-Leela’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ are the reason that Ranveer Singh reached stardom status.
And now it seems that Ranveer thinks that this gives him right to insist that Bhansali reduces Shahid Kapoor’s role to special / guest appearance in the next big release of ‘Padmavati’. But director has outright refused to do so, saying it would be unfair to Shahid.
The reports further suggest that Bhansali had his own valid reasons for not agreeing to Ranveer’s demands; firstly, the director has booked equal number of dates of both Ranveer and Shahid and secondly, Shahid agreed to come on board only after being assured that his role will be as meaty as Ranveer’s in the film. Hence, Bhansali argues that if he bills Shahid’s role as special / guest appearance then he will leave the film, which is the last thing Bhansali wants to happen at this stage of the film which was supposed to go on floors few days ago.
The director has now asked Ranveer’s personal love interest Deepika to step in and bail him out of the crisis by convincing Ranveer to start shooting. Reports even suggest that Bhansali has decided to not work with Ranveer ever in the future after ‘Padmavati’.
Financial Woes Dog Bhansali
After running from pillar to post, finally got the star cast of figured out, but has been facing difficult time as far as arranging finance for his magnum opus is concerned. And that reportedly, is causing delay in taking the film on floors.
While his earlier two films, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Ram-Leela’ were produced by Eros International, ‘Padmavati’, as per the reports, will be co-produced by two production houses, Eros and Viacom 18, which Bhansali had collaborated with to co-produce ‘Mary Kom’.
The budget of ‘Padmavati’ is touted to be a whopping Rs 150 crore approximately and we aren’t surprised. After all, Bhansali is known for his penchant for grandeur and making visually spectacular movies. Considering his last films had done fantastic business at the ticket counters, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to arrange the finances for ‘Padmavati’.
But looking at the way studios have been facing major losses and a couple of them have even backed out of movie production business recently, the dilemma of studios in investing Rs 150 crore is quite understandable and obvious.
Oh well, if Bhansali was friends with the Gupta’s we are so sure they’d have bailed him out or we are kinda sure VBS Mutual Bank that funded Zuma’s #PayBackTheMoney could help.
Hardik Patel has demanded that the production of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor be stopped unless Bhansali assures him that the film won’t distort the image of Rani Padmavati.
Hardik Patel, president of Patidar Navnirman Sena (PNS), has demanded that production of Bhansali’s ambitious project be stopped unless there is guarantee that the filmmaker will not distort the image of Rani Padmavati in the way she is portrayed on screen.
“Bhansali has to give assurance of not damaging Rani Padmavati’s image, or else Patidar Navnirman Sena will hold protests across the country and will not give permission for the film to release in Rajasthan. No director has the right to damage history for entertainment,” Patel told the media.
He further added that PNS would not let shooting of the film to happen on location in parts of Gujarat and Mewar, as Bhansali has planned. “Every person is proud of Maharani Padmavati, who sacrificed her life for the self-esteem of Chittorgarh. Along with 1,600 other queens, she died of jauhar (selfimmolation) when Alauddin Khilji attacked Chittorgarh.
However Rajasthan-based Rajput Sena’s members met me and informed that SLB has not studied the history, and could damage the image of Rani Padmavati. So, we have informed him to stop the production of the film and hold discussions with Rajput leaders before he begins shooting,” Patel said.
