Ethnic lifestyle radio station at the SABC, LotusFM has implemented swift changes to their programming lineup effective from Monday morning.
The station has reportedly lost about a third of its listeners, with its average listener numbers falling by about 130,000, from 390,000 to 260,000. Advertisers have resorted to reconsidering their advertising needs to where LotusFM listeners have migrated.
Here are the changes to expect if you still tune in to LotusFM from next week
The offbeat, quirky frontier Morning Rush breakfast show, anchored by Neville ‘TopDan’ Pillay, have lost their traffic girl, Sanobar Khan who will now take over the ‘Drive Time’ show previously held down by Shaastra Nagesar.
Nagesar has now been assigned as producer, which according to sources this move is being seen as a demotion.
The ‘Life And Syle’ show anchored by Enrico Pillay and Shirdika Pillai has now been returned to the hands of Zakia Ahmed. Enrico returns to the ‘Weekend Liftoff’ with Jailoshini Naidoo while Shirdika will take over as the traffic commentator.
Karusha Chetty has been assigned the graveyard shift on weekdays.
Out the LotusFM door is Kevin Rebellious and Zaid Bhoola, the two have resigned from the station citing that they have better offers at other online stations.
Sources indicate that staff are unhappy with the current program changes, accusing the management of abusing power in order to reward staff who spy on other staff while sidelining others.
