The end of the year might be flooded with thoughts about bringing in the New Year by partying away through a night drowned in alcohol or worse. Before you do, though, keep in mind that although we’re headed towards the end of another productive year, you may not have really had the time to reflect on the year that has almost gone by.
Apart from new beginnings, the New Year brings about the time to wipe your slate clean; mentally, physically, and spiritually. A time to burn your bridges. Leaving behind the old you and allowing yourself to manifest into the person you have always envisioned yourself into becoming. Use these rituals to wake up with a renewed sense of purpose on January 1st, after the fun and frolic, to kick off the New Year motivated and make 2018 your best year yet.
Pen down your hopes and dreams
Find a quiet corner, preferably at home, and visualise any deeply indelible memories of where you felt low or a lack of self-worth or kept drowning in self-induced pain. Then make a list of the moments, repetitive patterns of beliefs, negative thought processes, and emotions that have weighed you down. Hold on to these thoughts and emotions while imagining how you would have ideally liked it to play out. Now, begin rewriting your story according to what you want to envision it as and observe if you feel more relaxed while doing so.
Decongest your mind
All your experiences this year, positive or negative, need to be acknowledged and then cast away. Burning has been used for centuries as a tool of releasing your emotions. Gather yourself, and friends if you want, around a fireplace and write down all the negative feelings and emotions that you faced or had a hard time facing this year. Make an affirmation by telling yourself “you are releasing yourself from these cognitions” before tossing them into the flame. This act by itself will help you mentally clear space in your mind for positive reflections.
Declutter your environment
The space that you spend most of your time, your home, for instance, absorbs the energy you emit during the day. This energy includes a significant amount of negative energy. Use grated camphor and burn it in the morning and evening, making sure it reaches all corners of your home. Perform this for a week or so to make sure you get rid of all the unwanted energy.
Light up your spirit
The beginning of a new year is probably the best time to introspect and get in touch with your spiritual self. Burn herbal smudge sticks, such as Sage, Cedar, Palo santo, or sweet grass at home, as these, are renowned for their potent deep cleansing effect.
Bathe away your toxins
Bathe extensively in a tub containing Epson salts. The sulphates in Epson salt help flush out toxins from your body, cleansing it and freeing your mind. Soak yourself for 40 minutes in total. The first 20 will work to extract the toxins, and the next 20 will help reabsorb the minerals floating around in the water.
Put out a vision board for the universe
Visualising is more powerful than just saying the word. Create a vision board that exhibits a mix of images, actionable words, and to-do lists to display whatever you want to be in your life. This could officially be your message to the universe.
Meditate with intent
This little transition time between this year and the next is an opportunity to absorb the moment and reflect inward. Find a quiet corner, where you focus on your breathing and the present moment. Ask yourself “what would you like to change about yourself this year and how would you like to be”. Hold this thought in your mind and heart to power you through the year to come.
