KZN Indians Have Advantage Over Blacks

Newly re-elected provincial secretary of the KwaZulu-Natal ANC Youth League Thanduxolo Sabelo has called for Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s head.

Speaking at the close of the league’s three-day elective conference in Durban on Sunday‚ Sabelo said it was time for President Jacob Zuma to “rescue the country”.

He urged Zuma to replace the embattled Gordhan with a finance minister who was competent.

Sabelo‚ who is a strong backer of presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma‚ retained his position as provincial secretary. Kwazi Mshengu‚ who held the deputy chairman post‚ was elected chairman

The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal’s elective conference closed on Sunday with attack on provincial government for allowing Indian business community a free will on tenders while majority of black people are left out.

ANC Youth League Ethekwini Region spokesman Thulisa Ndlela, who had been asked by league’s provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo to speak to the media on behalf of the province, said there was growing concern about Indian business owners because they were given advantage over their African counterparts by the provincial government.

“Thanduxolo spokes unequivocal during the eThekwini regional general council held in Moses Mabhida Stadium yesterday (Thursday) in preparation for this conference about the issue of Indians dominating the government deals both in eThekwini and in the province,” said Ndlela.

He said Sabelo, who is expected to be elected unopposed to retain his position, would warn the delegates tomorrow about the Indians business owners dominating the economy of the province.

“The bus industry in Durban is dominated by the Indians, as they are about four Indian companies that are running private buses in the city. You cannot say the Gcaba family is owning buses because they are running the fleet on behalf of the eThekwini Municipality.

“The bus industry is getting subsidy from the government,” said Ndlela.
