SAPS: Durban Baby Reward Now R270,000

Durban police have promised to scour all areas of the city as they try to find missing one-month-old baby.

The little girl was taken in an apparent hijacking near a shopping centre in Greyville at about noon on Friday. Her mom and her 8-year-old brother were in their car when two armed men approached them. The mother and the young boy were forced out of the car‚ and the men sped off with the one month old still strapped into her car seat.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokersperson, Thulani Zwane indicated that the SAPS have now offered a reward of upto R250 000 for the safe return of the baby.  An anonymous listener who called in to East Coast Radio offered R10 000 this was then doubled by the offer from radio jock Phat Joe.

It has been also highlighted that more 100 police officers and various security companies, community action groups met Saturday morning at the Durban Central police station and are deployed across key areas to search for the baby. Areas of Greyville and Cato Manor have been core search points with police K9 dog units and various community members continues.

Rescue Care paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson‚ who was joining the effort‚ said “multiple teams” were hitting different areas throughout the day‚ as emergency services collaborate to try to find the child. Some had gathered at the Cato Manor sports grounds‚ which will be used as a makeshift base for search operations in the bushy area.
