The parallel trust and ashram in Karnataka takes rise in popularity and devotees and at the same time started to lead to division, faction groups and confusion.
It is said that former members of the Sathya Sai Central Trust of Puttaparthi along with a number of staunch devotees of the late Sathya Sai Baba are reportedly supporting the new ashram at Muddenahalli in Karnataka.
In 2015, a 23 year old who was a student at the Sathya Sai Baba campus has claimed to be a ‘light body’ manifestation of the late spiritual leader.
Is this the new avatar?
The Prasanthi Council, which leads the Sathya Sai organization worldwide, has rejected the claims of the new godman who claims to channel the spirit of late Sathya Sai Baba. But the rejection of this claim has not stopped devotees who find solace and spiritual guidance from Madhu Sudhan Naidu who defines himself as the subtle form of Sathya Sai Baba.
He is receiving letters like the late Sathya Sai Baba did from devotees who are thronging to the new ashram for special pujas on Thursdays and Sundays. With the new godman, Madhu Sudan Naidu claiming to be a manifestation of the Sathya Sai Baba the several traditions of spiritual practise from Prasanthi Nilayam have been replicated at the Muddenahalli ashram.
The new ashram resembles Prasanthi Nilayam and was built at great expense. After speaking to South African Sathya Sai devotees, 70% of them have admitted to visiting the new ashram after going to Prasanthi Nilayam ashram.
What do South African Sai Baba devotees have to say?
One of the devotees that spoke to IndianSpice stated that many are questioning the right of the Prasanthi Council to reject or accept the newcomer, Madhu Sudan Naidu.
Sources in India have indicated that many devotees visit Sathya Sai Baba’s Puttaparthi on Sundays and Thursdays and thereafter travel to the Muddenahalli ashram. The Sathya Sai Central Trust has not officially or publicly rejected the newcomer but reportedly objected to development of the parallel ashram since the breakaway from the Prasanthi faction.
Is the Prasanthi Council divided in the decision to accept the new ‘avatar’.
Dr. Narendranath Reddy, Chairman, Prasanthi Council – the governing body of the Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSIO) issued a statement after devotees called for response to the growing popularity of the new godman.
The statement you will watch highlights is an urgent plea to the organization members to focus their spiritual upliftment from Prasanthi ashram only, Dr Reddy reiterates the value mission of Sathya Sai Baba as a reminder to all who are confused.

Those who reject the new avatar claim that this duplicate ashram has benefitted immensely from Prasanthi devotees financially. Naidu is said to be theatrically co-ordinated by a close aide of the late Sathya Sai Baba – Mr Narasimha Murthy.

Background History: Satya Sai Loka Seva Institutions at Alike and Muddenahalli were established in 1963 and 1973 respectively by Madiyala Narayana Bhat under the guidance of Sathya Sai Baba.
They formed the Sri Satya Sai Saraswathi Education Trust to establish the institutions. The Muddenahalli ashram situated near Chikkaballapur on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru was reportedly maintained by the Sri Satya Sai Central Trust until the demise of Sai Baba.
The situation changed after the death of Satya Sai Baba, with a group of former trust members and staunch devotees, including one of the donors to the specialist hospital, showing interest in the Muddenahalli ashram instead of Puttaparthi.
