LotusFM Shuffles Their Programming

Durban: LotusFM has suffered incredible setbacks since the Hlaudi Motsoeneng local content policy was implemented. The Indian lifestyle national radio station has remained on the downward spiral losing listeners and ad revenue dramatically.

Internal conflict, corruption, bribery and other allegations have marred the reputation of the station since 2014.

The station lost about a third of its listeners, with its average listener numbers falling by about 130,000, from 390,000 to 260,000 last year. In the recent week, it has been reported that the station has lost 40% of it listenership.

After the report was published, the station management moved to shuffle their programming line-up in October 2016. LotusFM staff have been rumored to have been unhappy with the changes that were implemented including the loss of Zaid Bhoola & Kevin Rebellious.

I WILL FUCKING CUT YOU DOWN TO SIZE, YOU HEAR ME. – Randheer Balbadan, LotusFM Marketing Manager

On the evening of 26 April, replicating the night time cabinet reshuffle announcement by President Jacob Zuma, the management of the station released a press statement outlining new changes to the station’s programming including new additions to the team effective 01 May 2017.

The dying Morning Rush

Mishka Gounden has been appointed as the new traffic presenter with former producer of the show, RJ Ryan Naicker has been handed the reins as the host of the breakfast show with Shaastra Nagesar taking over his role. Althaf Suleman retains his function as sport presenter and the butt of jokes as they run out of ideas.

Get Lyrical with Zakia!

Former pageant girl, Miss India South Africa Krsna Priya Dasa, will be producing the successful ‘Life & Style’ show anchored by Zakia Ahmed.

Shirdika Pillai takes over the Midday Spice Show, with Byron David as producer, which is a welcomed move by killing the afternoon drive show that was anchored by David.

Afternoon Takeover

An interesting move is that the drive time show will be hosted by Mr Bollywood’s Varshan Sookhun ‘Afternoon Takeover’ with Pravina Maharaj as producer & Feroz Shaik as sport presenter and Sanobar Khan presenting traffic.

Weekend presenter, Enrico Pillay joins Alan Khan as the producer of ‘Walk The Talk’. The offbeat ‘Jungle Fever’ which airs on the weekend anchored by RJ, Avin Moorley will now also host the Friday ‘In Da Mix’.

“We are excited about the line-up; it was a much needed refreshed rotation of on-air presenters within the station. I would also like to welcome those who have joined the station and I have full confidence in the entire line-up”, said station manager Alvin Pillay.

The press release however failed to include the award winning news team, Newsbreak in their communique which led to listener’s assuming that Newsbreak has been taken off air.

Salma Patel, who heads the Newsbreak team, confirmed that they are still on air and will continue bringing the latest news, analysis and opinion daily.

” When the station publishes their new line-up and Newsbreak on LotusFM is nowhere to be seen. Maybe, just an error……but rest assured, we will still bring you cutting edge radio current affairs on your favourite radio station, Lotus FM. We may not be seen…but we can be heard ? ” SALMA PATEL

Salma Patel has removed the post from Facebook following a request to have it taken down.

However, the changes come with some damning allegations that certain staff have slept their way to their new positions. That story coming soon stay tuned as we ‘Share the Experience.’
