A group of concerned devotees have sought the intervention of the Sathya Sai International chairman, Dr Narendranath Reddy in calls for the dismantling of the existing South African Sathya Sai leadership.
In a scathing open letter published on iPetitions, a detailed excerpt of concern around the showmanship, pomp and ceremony, feeding of egos and wasteful expenditure are highlighted for investigation.
The accusations go as far as devotees in South Africa are being threatened with violence & intimidation. The South African chapter of the organization is being described as lacking ‘ethical leadership’
Govender has been accused of creating VIP allotments for a forthcoming Sathya Sai event in Chatsworth and in turn asking for money in the name of the Sathya Sai organization.
“Never ever in the history of the Sai Organization in South Africa has such showmanship been put on display. It is absurd to hear what is going on. Further to this, you have a Central Council President in a white suit playing out videos in Thursday Satsangs imploring devotees to attend this big Chatsworth programme. Flyers are also being circulated within centres. Is this what the Organization has become?
Some celebrity church where the Central Council President is acting like a celebrity pastor. It makes a mockery of the humility of the organization and to be frank makes us all look like we are in a circus led by a circus master.”
There are records that many devotees are being harassed for funds. Signed affidavits from devotees are in possession stating they are being pushed to pay up.
The current Sathya Sai Organisation of South Africa is being accused of seeking favor with the African National Congress. The letter goes to state that the organization has failed to remain apolitical and neutral.
The situation for devotees has become alarmingly unacceptable with devotees being misinformed and misguided in the name of the avatar, Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The allegations against the Sathya Sai South Africa chapter has been in contravention of the Sathya Sai Charter and trust deeds that have been signed.
The group of devotees have demanded answers from the head of the Sathya Sai International Organisation as their concerns have via ‘reasonable dialogue’ have been ignored by the head office in India.
The devotees have also warned the Sathya Sai International Organisation chairman and trustee’s to not ignore their call for assistance. The request if ignored would be a ‘reckless or irresponsible for senior leadership of the organization internationally to dismiss’ their request.
