Ravi Govender’s axing from SABC’s Indian lifestyle radio station has been described as an act of pressure from the Zuma family.
Govender hosted the popular Vinyl Countdown show on Fridays from 19:00 to 21:00, according to the Lotus FM website.
“I can confirm that his contract has been terminated,” SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said.
Kganyago said Govender would immediately stop work at Lotus FM. Kganyago said the public broadcaster was concerned that Govender had put the SABC into disrepute.
Soon after the news broke last night that the popular radio station DJ had been given the marching orders, DA shadow Minister of Communications, Phumzile Van Damme took to Twitter.
‘Not this again. The SABC has been doing well. Pressure from the Zuma family, and it all falls apart. Tomorrow morning we deal with this.’

Ravi Govender was called out on his social media post after he described President Jacob Zuma a ‘zombie’ for his use of the English language during a speech at the ANC National Policy conference.
