The Office of the ANC Chief Whip has welcomed the decision of the Speaker of National Assembly, Baleka Mbete that the voting on the motion of no confidence in the President will be by secret ballot.
The ANC in Parliament have iterated that they will support the decision the Speaker and were not adverse to either a secret or open ballot.
The Chief Whip’s media statement describes the Democratic Alliance as their political nemesis and describes their act of the motion of no confidence as a political ploy designed to undermine the ANC-led government. The intent to fracture and weaken the ANC with this motion by the Democratic Alliance and opposition forces is seen as not in the interest of the country.
Mtehmbu’s office reiterated their stance that ANC members will vote against the motion.
The online circulation of a list claiming to have 95 ANC members of Parliament who will vote in favour of this motion is seen as fake news to the extent that some of the people on the list have long left Parliament including comrade Joyce Moloi-Moropa.
The other member included on the list is a member who was buried this past week, Trevor Bonhomme. The ANC Chief Whip states he has full confidence in members of Parliament when voting in secret and that the motion of no-confidence will be defeated.
