Tapsnapp is an online platform that helps customers connect with photographers by location and shoot type. It serves as a marketplace for entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses to find and hire professional photographers that match their needs.
The development of technology has led to photography becoming more commonly used in society. While a user can take great pictures with their mobile phones, the photography profession has not been able to keep up with the digital trends and the demands of the modern consumer.
Vije Vijendranath is the Co-Founder and CEO at Tapsnapp. He was born in Sri Lanka but lived in South Africa for most of his life. He studied at the University of Pretoria where he gained an education in Engineering and ICT.
Tapsnapp is an online platform that helps customers connect with photographers by location and shoot type. It serves as a marketplace for entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses to find and hire professional photographers that match their needs. The customer can book and pay securely online with pricing made available upfront without the unnecessary back and forth communication. Tapsnapp will then provide a list of professional photographers from their large selection of photographers throughout the country.
Tapsnapp was founded by both Vije Vijendranath (CEO) and Jaiprakash Sewram (CTO) in early 2017. Tapsnapp has a wide range of photographers where users can pay more if they are interested in more quality, from Level 1 (Beginner) to Level 5 (Expert). A photographer is placed in a tier based on their portfolio, whether they have their own domain, an email address, their clients and years in the industry. The ambassador photographers are Level 5 photographers that are sponsored around the country and act as the face of the Tapsnapp. Currently, there are 3 ambassador photographers, 50 photographers, and 70 pre-signed photographers.
Vije has had many experiences during his entrepreneurial journey. In 2009, he founded and directed Vimage Media, a media company specializing in photography, video, brand marketing and learning solutions. In 2014, he co-founded You, Baby & I, a company that provided a marketplace for mothers to share their brand experiences through content written by other moms.
In his 3rd year of University, he helped build a product with a team in the US as part of the “Make the World A Safer Place” competition hosted by Microsoft. After their team placed in the top ten, Vije felt accomplished with the fact that he can build something and help solve a problem. Through these experiences, Vije decided to develop a startup that followed his passion of photography.
Having a passion for photography and being in the industry for over 9 years helped Vije become aware of some disparities. He discussed how price has been an issue as it is not structured or regulated and centralized costs tend to be expensive. Therefore, he decided to implement in the art world a structure that can regulate and streamline the industry. He envisions Tapsnapp becoming a global network of photographers. His motivation lies with the product and services than can help the world at large.
He believes it is very important as an entrepreneur to personally understand the culture of the problem to generate a stronger solution. One should first try to address a problem in their society and then expand from there. In addition, Vije considers it essential to make sure you have the proper team of people with you. These are ones that you can trust, share the same ambitions with and complement your own skills.
While he is passionate about photography, he likes to always do something different on his spare time to clear his mind. Vije loves to spend his time with his family and teaching and inspiring his children.
