Over 360 applicants were put forward for the SABC Board and Jack Devnarain has been shortlisted.
The public has until Tuesday to give input on who should oversee the running of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) as parliamentarians will soon be interviewing board candidates.
The names and resumes of the 36 hopefuls have been published on Parliament’s website for public comment. They include all five members of the interim board.
Former SABC board member Rachel Kalidass, who testified during a parliamentary inquiry into the SABC last year, made the cut.
So did Jack Devnarain, whose well known for his role as Rajesh Kumar in the television show Isidingo.
“If we have any pride in our nation, as diverse, opinionated and as dynamic as we are, I ask for your endorsement as one of the 12 Non-Executive Directors on the SABC Board.” says Devnarain
Members of the public have until end of business on Tuesday, 29 August 2017 to comment on the nominees.
Devnarain went to state, “Allow me to be your voice. Give me the leverage to undo the poisonous influence of political scandal that has taken the place of our colourful diversity at one of our key institutions. Let us put this right. All I have is my experience, the values that have guided me through my childhood, and the respect I have earned through my work. It would be my privilege to be your voice on the SABC Board.”
Comments should be directed to the Committee Secretary, Mr Thembinkosi Ngoma on email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
