‘Mersal’ First South Indian Movie Gets Trademarked

According to reports, Tamil movie Mersal has become the first South Indian movie to trademark its title.

This is the first time a film is trademarking their title, before this a Kollywood production house had trademarked their name. From now on if anybody has to use the term Mersal for any commercial purposes, they will have to pay a certain amount of revenue to the makers of the film.

The legal process of trademarking a film took the team almost six months. Mersal is a commonly used Tamil term which has been used more like a product by the team of the film. By trademarking the title, the Mersalteam has ensured people from claiming the registration of the title or claiming that the title belongs to them.

Vijay’s movie was recently in news for being the first South Indian movie to get an emoji on Twitter.

Mersal is one of the most awaited movies of the year which is set to release in October. The movie is said to be one of the most expensive movies of Vijay, with him playing three roles, that of a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. The film has been directed by Atlee.
