South Africa: Diwali Is NOT a Public Holiday

Diwali celebrations annually in South Africa is met with disdain as the dates of the celebration go under a battle as big as the Mahabharata with each faction claiming ownership of a certain date.

And no, Diwali is not a public holiday in South Africa.

The official dates of Diwali are as follows:

  • Saturday, 26 October , 2019 – Deepavali (South Indians)
  • Sunday, 27 October, 2019 – Diwali (North Indians)
