South African author Naufal Khan’s debut novel ‘A Deal With Mother Kali.’
#BOOKS: The Khan family were forced to relocate to Johannesburg over 2 decades ago in search of a better life and Gauteng was the land of opportunity. In 2016, their lives changed completely when death hung over the life of their youngest child. The story that’s inspired by real-life events in Johannesburg, South Africa introduces us to Zainul Khan who ends up in a 9-month coma after a horrific motor vehicle accident. Doctors ask the family to come to prepare for the worst as his vitals begin to fail.
The family refuse the prognosis by doctors – they were not prepared to accept this as the end of Zain’s journey on earth. Their arrogance is also steeped in unwavering faith in a higher power. While Zainul remained in a coma for 45 days, he was wasting away at a tremendous rate. It was then that Naufal sought a solution from spiritual guidance – a darker element- that he unlocked inside of him; a part of his identity he kept away from and for good reason.
Back in KwaZulu-Natal at the ancestral home of the Naidoo family, a series of dark rituals were being performed as the Hindu Goddess Kali was awakened. At the very same location the spirit of Hazrat Ali known as the ‘Lion Of Islam’ – was also summoned in what was to be the unlocking of energy that was dormant inside of Naufal. The very same energy that was required to help restore a life and a family’s vista of faith.
A series of supernatural events unravel as the Hindu Goddess Kali, Islam’s Hazrat Ali & the avatar of Sathya Sai Baba work in unison protecting a soul from transitioning.
About the author: Born into a family of two ancient & powerful religions, Naufal Khan started a journey of self-discovery of understanding Hinduism & Islam. A proudly South African author born in Durban, South Africa he was raised among factions of Muslim and Hindu folk. It felt like the great India-Pakistan partition for him as he balanced vanakkams with salaams amongst orthodox elders.
Little did Khan know that his interesting family dynamic was to embark him on a magical journey between two religions. The daily tutelage of mastering the sacred Quran while keeping up with lessons from the sacred texts of Hinduism, Khan found his Mecca on the peaks of the Himalayas.
Khan traverses the realms of alternate realities decoding mythology, religion, occult and fantasy in this exciting book. Looking forward to this book! Gripping stuff!Mala Lutchmanan. South African author & Tamil Scholar
