HMD Global has launched its first flagship high-end phone, the Nokia 8, in South Africa recently. The phone, which sports vanilla Android (7.1 Nougat with 8.0 Oreo to follow soon), will retail for an aggressively priced recommended R9 499.

It has 64GB of flash storage plus a further 4GB of ram. Comparing this to the 32GB that comes automatically with an i-Phone, it seems like Nokia have built an Android with practical storage limits.

Features and qualities

It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. Now, that’s an huge amount of power and makes this phone an incredibly quick Android. With great power, comes great cooling technology – copper pipes are used to stop it overheating.

The 13-megapixel camera has two rear-facing lenses and a front-facing one. Nokia also say it comes with an ‘exceptionally long’ battery life and automatic connection to all Google apps.

The Nokia 8 is available for R449/month on a 24-month Vodacom contract, the UChoose Flexi 150, HMD Global said. The phone will be available on MTN and Cell C from 1 November.
