Sugan Naicker of Chatsworth, a former Westcliff Secondary pupil has been swindling South Africans of hundreds of thousands of rands.
Two weeks ago, Sugan Deon Naicker was nabbed at the Boksburg K90 Mall on 8 October in a joint operation by IndianSpice Investigative unit KALI, the victims & the Community Monitoring Services Benoni (CMS).
Naicker was processed at the Boksburg North police station and was placed in custody until his bail appearance. A disheveled looking Naicker was hauled into court as existing charges were presented to the court but the bail application was not run.
It was adjourned for a formal bail application under schedule 5 or 6 due to previous convictions. The case had further been postponed to the 16th of October and then again until today 20th October 2017.
The SAPS investigating officer, Detective Boesak presented his testimony including the new dockets from across the country to the Magistrate.
Freedom For Just Thirty Seconds
At 2pm this afternoon, Naicker faced the Magistrate looking exhausted from being in jail for two weeks awaiting his bail application outcome. The Magistrate ruled in favor of Naicker granting him bail of R5000 but his relief was short-lived.
Detective Boesak who has been in charge of the case re-arrested Naicker immediately after his bail judgement was ruled. A warrant of arrest was issued in Pietermaritzburg for Naicker on another fraud case, which he needs to appear for.
Family members who were present at the ruling were shocked at the turn of events that unraveled in front of them watching Naicker being handcuffed soon after the judgement.
Naicker has been transferred to Boksburg SAPS holding where his family pleaded with Detective Boesak to release Naicker just for the weekend in order to spend time with him but their request fell on deaf ears. The fraudster will be moved to Boksburg Prison and will be held until the investigating officer from Pietermaritzburg SAPS travels to Gauteng to take custody of Naicker.
Naicker will appear on a series of charges in Pietermaritzburg Magistrate Courts while other dockets from around the country continue to heap in order to proceed with prosecution at some point.
Warrants from other SAPS branches have issued against Naicker where his victims will have their chance to see justice being served.
Naicker’s elaborate fraud schemes have been run for years targeting people that he befriends on social media and via arrangements of family members who scout on his behalf. The LGBT community was also frequent targets of Naicker who pretended to be romantically attracted to them to engage their attention before presenting them with his get rich quick schemes.
These victims who have been scammed by Naicker have been left financially and emotionally devastated after being promised profitable returns on investments he would make on their behalf.
It has also emerged Naicker held a bank account at Bidvest with an amount of over R850, 000 that was successfully frozen when he was exposed. Other banking institutions have been notified who are proceeding with their investigations into Naicker’s banking activity with them.
