Singing has been in her blood from a toddler for 12-year-old Phoenix, Durban resident Fazlyn Naidoo.
The songstress captured the hearts of the nation after receiving the much sought after Golden buzzer to reach the semi-finals of popular show SA’s Got Talent.
The journey of singing started at age four for Naidoo, the rising star recalls her first time singing on stage, “I also remember going to Scottsburgh Beach after our visit to Croc World. Beach Idols was there and I insisted on going up and singing. I was not afraid and I sang with the help of my mother.”
This first time on stage built Naidoo’s passion for singing eventually leading her to start taking vocal and performance lessons at the age of seven. Naidoo enjoys singing all genres of music, a great source of inspiration for her has been through the music of Grammy award winning singer Adele whom Naidoo describes as “Beautiful, humble and incredibly talented”.
Auditioning for SA’s Got Talent came about after Naidoo’s grandparents encouraged her to enter after watching numerous editions of the talent show.
Naidoo still recalls the Golden buzzer moment as a life changing moment, “It was unbelievable I had seen that moment so many times on TV. and to actually live it was surreal”.
Each judge gets to use the golden buzzer once in the season for a special act that they really believe in. This sends the contestants straight through to the semi-finals. Usually the judges wait to see a few acts before they give their golden buzzer away, but Shado was clearly convinced by Fazlyn’s talent.
“I’m gobsmacked at the gift you have,” Shado told Fazlyn. “You’re going to go far!” Shado advised her to carry on working hard on her talent.
