Islamic council calls for boycott of Al Ansaar Souk

The Muslim governing body, Jamiatul Ulama have issued a statement following the public outcry over the controversial performance of international Muslim rap duo Deen Squad at the Al Ansaar Souk.

The Executive committee of the Ulama have requested that the general Muslim public refrain from supporting the Al Ansaar Souk.

The letter describes the event as ‘shocking’ where rap music led to Muslim female youth singing and dancing in what has been exemplified as ‘shamelessness.’

The Al Ansaar Souk has been further described as’ being saturated with sin, which creates an atmosphere for the blatant disregard of the Shari’ah and mock the Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam)’

The Jamiatul Ulama KZN makes an earnest appeal to the Muslim Community to refrain from attending the Al Ansaar Souk in Durban and other such similar events.

For many years now, many senior Ulama, including the late Moulana Yunus Patel have repeatedly warned against gatherings in the name of Islamic fairs and Souks.

The recent shocking events at the Al Ansaar Souk has triggered an outpouring of condemnation from the Muslim public and especially the events of last night which the Ulama have been cautioning against for many years now.

However, the recent events now bring home the reality of the dangers of attending such events.

Besides the music and dancing that has taken place, this event is an arena where time and money is wasted and where shamelessness, free intermingling and zina of the eyes and ears very often takes place with grave and precarious consequences.

It is ironic that whilst the Souk is advertised in the guise of an Islamic event, the conditions there are generally saturated with sin, which creates an atmosphere for the blatant disregard of the Shari’ah and mock the Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam)

We therefore implore the public and stall holders alike to desist completely from participating and supporting such events.
