In this webisode of Ishq FM’s Calling Karan, Karan Johar dives into dating rules and fields calls about dating problems.
He begins with explaining how we romanticise dating and believe it to be the most beautiful phase of the relationship complete with the butterflies-in-the-tummy kind of overwhelming emotions. He addresses the ways in which online dating has changed the game.
One of my key rules when it comes to dating – Don’t smother people. If you’ve met online, then don’t not spam them with good morning, good afternooon and good night messages. You will come across as needy.
Karan Johar advises one of the woman callers against meeting her Tinder date in his friend’s empty house and suggests that she meet him for coffee instead to assess the situation. Johar talks about how the Grindr dynamic and the heterosexual dynamic differ in this regard. Even in this webisode like the previous one, Johar finds sly ways to acknowledge his sexual orientation.
While speaking to another caller, he emphasises on how boundaries are imperative for all relationships – parent-child, friends, siblings. The caller confides in Karan about his girlfriend breaking into his digital passwords.
He reveals in the reverse rapid fire round that his ideal date would be dinner and conversations in New York. He confesses to being old school in terms of his dating pattern.
Karan Johar’s suprise caller on this webisode is someone he calls his 3 am, 4 am and 5 am friend – Kareena Kapoor.
“I am also the perfect person to give Ishq advice. With love comes a lot of respect and patience. It’s vital in a relationship. I think I trained Karan well.” Kareena Kapoor
Karan Johar then lets us in on a secret. He tells us about how Kareena would sit on Karan’s couch and seek his advice time and again even before Saif came into her life.
“So may the force always be with that couch.” Karan Johar
He goes on to say that the rule of getting physically intimate on the third date is passe and needs to be thrown out of the window. Do what feels right to you especially when it comes to intimacy. Just pick up on the cues the person is giving you. Johar follows it up with his ultimate dating advice – Do not pretend to be someone else on your date because ultimately your truth shall be revealed.
