Get hungry with this Bhopal Mutton dish

Mention ‘Madhya Pradesh’ to any foodie and their eyes are sure to light up, and this is not without good reason. Often called the heart of India, this state is nothing short of a culinary heaven.

So diverse is Madhya Pradesh’s contribution to the food world, that there’s something here for every palate. And if you’re a meat lover, then it only gets better.

To give you a taste of what’s in store for you in MP, renowned chef, author, TV host and entrepreneur Saransh Goila rustles up an irresistible mutton delicacy – Bhopali Gosht Korma – only for you. Also, watch out for some really useful cooking tips that he gives out.


  • Mutton: 1 kg
  • Onions: ½ kg
  • Raw spices: 25 gm
  • Ginger and garlic: 100 gm
  • Coriander: 50 gm
  • Green chilies: 50gm
  • Grinded chilly: 20 gm
  • Coriander powder: 50 gm
  • Turmeric: 10 gm
  • Tomatoes: 250 gm
  • Cashew nuts: 50 gm
  • Curd: 100 gm
  • Oil: 150 gm
  • Ghee: 50 gm


Heat oil in a deep pan. Add Ghee. Add raw spices. Add ginger and garlic paste. Add chopped green chillies. Add chopped onions and cook till they are brown in color. Now mix tomatoes and cashew nuts with cooked onions and grind them. Heat oil in a separate pan and add mutton.

Tip: Use the same oil to make it tastier. Add other spices and salt. Mix well. Add the cooked onion paste. Add curd. Add some water. Now let the mutton cook on a low flame for 45 mins. Mix curd. Let the mutton cook on a low flame for 45 minutes. Garnish with coriander and ginger.
