Sridevi mortal remains to arrive in Mumbai today

On the morning of February 25, the world woke up to the heartbreaking news of the demise of Bollywood acting legend – Sridevi. Sridevi died of a cardiac arrest around 11 PM on February 24.

She was in UAE with the entire Kapoor family to attend the wedding ceremony of Mohit Marwah. The news of Sridevi’s death came as a huge shock to the entire film fraternity as well as her fans.

Sridevi’s mortal remains will be brought back to Mumbai only after the postmortem and final paperwork are completed in Dubai. A private jet flew to Dubai from Mumbai to carry the late actor’s body. The funeral is likely to take place at the Hindu Samshaan Bhoomi in Juhu on Monday.

Sridevi’s choice of characters in films was varied and this gave the audience a chance to see her in all avatars. Her last film appearance will be in Aanand L Rai’s Zero where she has done a cameo with Shah Rukh Khan.

The eagerness for a glimpse of the deceased superstar Sridevi’s cortège drowned out the shock of her sudden death as crowds gathered outside her home in Lokhandwala on Sunday refused to budge. All day, rumors swirled about the possible time of the arrival of the funeral cortège. At Green Acres, the luxury apartment complex that was Sridevi’s address, the few dozen spectators who had gathered until noon outside the fifteen closed iron gates were easily managed and caused no obstruction to passing traffic.

Veteran actor Madhuri Dixit also dropped by Anil Kapoor’s residence to pay her last respects. Contemporaries Madhuri and Sridevi used to rule the silver screen back in the 80s, while fans remained divided in their loyalties.
