#INSV Tarini photo exhibition opened in Cape Town

“Be careful. Watch out. No. We caution our daughters more than we do our sons. What message does this set out to a little girl.. That bravery is not for me?”

These were the powerful words said by Ruchira Kamboj – High Commissioner for India to South Africa and Lesotho in her powerful opening speech on Monday afternoon at the Royal Cape Yacht Club at the launch of the INSV Tarini Photographic exhibition.

After 178 days at sea‚ the all-female crew of Navika Sagar Parikrama INSV Tarini entered Cape Town, South Africa on Friday – March 2, 2018 as part of its maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe.

This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. The vessel is skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi and the crew comprises Lieutenant Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P. Swathi and Lieutenants S. Vijaya Devi, B. Aishwarya and Payal Gupta.

The #INSVTarini Photo Exhibition reflects the bravery, team work and resilience of each of the six Indian Navy all-woman sailors who are currently in Cape Town on the final leg of their historic and epic circumnavigation of the globe.
