The much-awaited ie100 List for 2018 is out and like every year it reveals the 100 most powerful Indians. Even in 2017, all the three Khans find a place in the list.
While Deepika Padukone is the first female star in the list, Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar, interestingly, appear one after the other in the list of most powerful Indians. Scroll on to find the celebrities who made it to the elite list.
No list is complete without Amitabh Bachchan. The legendary actor is ranked at number 77 owing to his massive clout in films, television and social media. Even at 75, his earnings from brand endorsements are one of the highest in India. With around 10 films in his kitty, Bachchan is unstoppable.
Superstar Rajinikanth might have turned to politics, but his influence in films is still intact. The Thalaivar, who has films like Kaala and 2.0 lined up, is ranked at number 78 in the Indian Express Power List for 2017.
Ranking at 79, Deepika Padukone is playing all her cards right. If 2017 was all about her big Hollywood debut in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, she opened 2018 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial magnum opus Padmaavat. Currently, Deepika is one of the highest paid actors in Bollywood and she is looking forward to Vishal Bharadwaj’s directorial opposite Irrfan Khan.
Ranking at 80, Aamir is credited for taking Bollywood to international screens. His Dangal alone has crossed Rs 1000 crore globally. Infact both Dangal and Secret Superstar’s success in China has opened a new market for Indian films abroad. His next big project is Thugs Of Hindostan.
Closely following Aamir on the list is Salman Khan at 81. The Bhai of Bollywood closed 2017 with Tiger Zinda Hai, which has become the biggest grosser for Yash Raj Films. Even his 2015 film Bajrangi Bhaijaan is drawing crowds in China. Salman has a busy 2018 with Race 3 and Bharat.
Shah Rukh Khan consecutively finds a place at 82, after the other two Khans. Despite his films struggling at the box office for some time now, the Badshah of Bollywood continues to rule. He is the most followed Indian on Twitter after PM Modi. He recently hosted TED Talks India on Star Plus and also received the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos. His next is Aanand L Rai’s Zero.
Kangana Ranaut, who hogs headlines with whatever she does, stands at 97. For the past few years, her personal life has made more noise than her professional. But, 2017 in specific was important as she triggered the big debate around nepotism in Bollywood, taking down filmmaker and ‘movie-mafia’ Karan Johar on his own show Koffee With Karan. When she isn’t getting into an on-off spat with Hrithik Roshan, she is busy with her production Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi. She will also be seen in Hansal Mehta’s Mental Hai Kya opposite Rajkummar Rao.
Interestingly, Karan Johar follows Kangana at number 98. The filmmaker is one of the most influential people in Bollywood, responsible for making careers of actors like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. 2017 was special for him as he became a father to twins Yash and Roohi through surrogacy. This year, he has some big films like Dhadak and Raazi among others being produced under his banner Dharma Productions.
