Spice People: Meet Darrien Luke Samuel

At what age did you decide this is the career you wanted ?

I started singing at the age of 6, I always knew that being in the entertainment industry was what my ultimate goal was.

What does your work mean to you? Is it fulfilling?

Music and singing mean everything to me. My goal was always to inspire people regardless of age, gender or race to follow their dreams regardless of the obstacles they might face on the way. My work is very fulfilling, whenever i sing/perform if I positively affected one person in the crowd, then I know, I have succeeded.

Who are your inspirations?

My inspirations are definitely my family who are so supportive and always push me toward my goal. My music inspirations is definitely vocalists such as: J’ something, John Legend and Sam Smith.

What is your favorite type of dance to learn and/or watch?

My favorite type of music to perform is gospel, house and pop. I enjoy watching live bands, jazz and the occasional Hip Hip.

What’s the three things you never leave home without?

My Cellphone, wallet & earphones

 Lovelife? Care to share?

I am currently single. I am open to being in a relationship and to find my future wife. 

Consider yourself a Masterchef in the kitchen?

Oh, absolutely. I simply love indian cuisine, and I make a mean soji.

Do you have advice for anyone wanting to start dance or act?

The music industry is very tough. Its is actually easier to give up then to go on. My advice would be to never give up if this is something you passionate about. My motto is to always find something you are passionate about and do everything to make your dreams a reality.

What is your favorite TV show?

I love watching lots of shows, if i had to pick a favorite it would be, Empire.

What is your favorite past TV show?

My favorite past tv show is definitely, Glee.

If you were stuck in one TV show which one would it have to be?

I would definitely choose empire, as it musically themed and I would be doing something that I love.

What is your favorite movie?

My favorite movie would have to be the step-up series.

What was the last movie you saw in the movie theatre?

Black panther, a definite must watch.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to spend time with friends and family, going to malls, watch movies and other fun activities.

What is your favorite restaurant/food place where you live?

I definitely love eating out at John Dory’s.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, 2 Dogs, love them to bits.

 If you had a soundtrack to your life what song/songs would have to be on it?

The soundtrack to my life would definitely be Warrior, by Demi Lovato.

What charity is closest to your heart?

Definitely the ABH old age home.

Do you have a favorite quote or saying that is always on your mind?

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re aren’t big enough”

Best travel experience, what made it a special memory?

Best travel memory was travelling to Cape Town, to appear in my first TV performance at the show Hectic Nine-9 on SABC 2.
